Privacy Policy

The short version: Plume turns your speech into text. We never save your audio. If you don't sign in, nothing leaves your device at all — and cloud transcription only ever happens after you give your permission in the app.
Microphone
Plume uses the microphone only while you are actively transcribing. It never listens on its own.
Audio Is Never Stored
Your speech is converted to text in real time and the audio is immediately discarded. We do not keep audio recordings — on your device or on our servers.
If You Don't Sign In (Free)
All transcription happens on your device, and your transcripts are stored only on your device. We collect nothing.
If You Sign In
- Email address — used to sign you in. You can sign in with Apple or Google; if you use Apple's “Hide My Email,” we only ever see the private relay address.
- Transcript text — the transcripts you choose to save are synced to and stored on our servers so they are available across your devices.
- Live audio (with your permission) — to provide higher-accuracy transcription, and only after you agree in the app, the audio of your recording session and your chosen language are sent securely to our server for real-time processing, then discarded — never retained. You can decline or switch this off at any time (Account → Cloud transcription) and Plume will transcribe on your device instead.
Third-Party Speech Recognition
When you allow cloud transcription, our server passes your live audio to professional third-party speech-recognition services, solely to convert it to text. Depending on language and availability, these are: Speechmatics, AssemblyAI, Deepgram, Google Cloud Speech-to-Text, and Groq (Whisper).
- What they receive: the live audio stream and the language setting — no name, no email, no account details.
- What they do with it: convert speech to text in real time. The audio is processed transiently and is not retained.
- Protection: each provider processes this data under a data-processing agreement and privacy commitments that provide the same or equivalent protection as this policy, and none of them use your audio to train AI models.
What We Never Do
We never sell or trade your data, and we do not use advertising or third-party tracking. We do not use your data for AI model training.
Where Your Data Lives
Saved transcript text is stored in the United Kingdom (AWS London) and encrypted at rest. When you allow cloud transcription, your live audio may be processed transiently by the speech-recognition services above on servers in the UK, EU or United States — it is discarded immediately after processing and never stored anywhere.
Your Control
You can copy, edit, or delete your transcripts at any time. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from within the app (Account → Delete account), or by contacting us. Account data is removed within 30 days.
