Terms of Use

Last updated: 17 August 2026

The short version: Plume turns speech into text. It makes mistakes, so check anything before you rely on it. Only record what you are entitled to record. Keep your own copies. Use it lawfully.

What Plume Is, and Who Provides It

Plume is a speech-to-text app for iPhone and iPad that turns spoken audio into written text. It is provided by AYDA Digital, United Kingdom — the team behind itranscribe. By downloading or using Plume you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Transcripts Can Be Wrong

Automatic transcription is not perfect. Transcripts may contain errors, omissions, misheard words and wrong names or numbers, and accuracy varies with audio quality, accents, background noise and language. Always read and check a transcript before you rely on it.

Not a Professional Record, and Not Advice

Plume is a general-purpose dictation tool. It is not a substitute for a professional medical, legal, financial or official record, and nothing it produces is advice of any kind. Do not use a Plume transcript as the sole record of a clinical consultation, a legal proceeding, a meeting minute or anything else that matters. You are responsible for anything you use a transcript for, and for checking it against the underlying facts.

Recording Other People

Only record audio you are entitled to record. The law on recording conversations varies from country to country and, in some places, from state to state — sometimes everyone present must agree, sometimes only one person. It is your responsibility to know the rules where you are and to obtain any consent required. We are not responsible for recordings you make without the necessary permission.

What You Upload

When cloud transcription is switched on, your audio is processed by our transcription providers, and comparable services, in order to produce text — and, if you turn on email digests, your transcript text is processed by our language-model providers. Do not put through Plume any audio or content you are not entitled to share with a third-party processor, including anything covered by confidentiality, professional privilege or a duty of secrecy you are not free to delegate. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is sent and to whom.

Your Account

Security, and Its Limits

We encrypt data in transit and encrypt stored transcript text, but no service is completely secure. Your transcripts are protected by your own device and account: anyone who can unlock your device, sign in as you, or gets hold of something you have shared can read them. Keep your device locked, turn on two-factor authentication for the account you sign in with, and sign out on shared devices. We are not responsible for what other people do with information you shared, or for anyone who gains access to your account, your device or anything you sent them — a partner, a family member, an employer or anyone else.

Keep Your Own Copies

Plume is provided free of charge and as-is. We do not promise that your transcripts will be stored, retained or delivered, and we may change or discontinue features at any time. We are not liable for lost, deleted or corrupted data. Copy or export anything that matters to you and keep your own backup.

Acceptable Use

Service Availability

We aim to keep Plume working but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may carry out maintenance, updates or changes at any time, and features that depend on third-party services may change or stop being available.

No Warranty

Plume is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of business, or any decision you make on the basis of a transcript. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for Plume in the twelve months before the claim arose, or £50, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

Privacy

How we handle your audio, transcripts and account is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page always shows the current version, and material changes will be flagged in the app or by email. Continuing to use Plume after a change means you accept it.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of your own country. Where you downloaded Plume from the App Store, Apple's standard End User Licence Agreement also applies; Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the app or for support, but Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
